Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Truly a Flagship for the Denon AVR Lineup I purchased the AVR-A1H in August of 2023 as part of a home theater project, and I was pleasantly surprised that it has made audio the focus of the room. At a basic level, this receiver allows a user to be up and running in minutes, with an intelligent setup guide that provides impressive results on its own, but also allows for more in depth configuration via Dirac Live, or manual adjustment. Where I would normally be tweaking speaker placement for hours, I was good to go after about an hour with a 9.4.4 setup where I could close my eyes and locate the "source" of a sound in 3D space easily. By default, I did feel that the system wanted the subwoofer levels a bit quieter than I prefer, but that was the most I had to play with. In terms of inputs, my only regret is the lack of component video inputs...but this is a receiver for today, not one from 20 years ago, so it makes sense. I haven't had any issues with video sources over HDMI, and the picture quality and image latency are both amazing. One thing to note is that this receiver is heavy, so take care where you place it. Also, as can be expected from a unit pumping so many watts, it can get a bit toasty, so keeping it in a well-ventilated area is a must. Suffice to say, I love it. It's a premium product...with a price to match, but there is nothing that comes close.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sounding Receiver I've enjoyed this receiver for almost a year since submitting this review. It's configured for a 7.2.4 configuration with front speakers bi-amped and two Zone 2 speakers for stereo out on the deck. This setup utilizes all fifteen amplifiers. Bi-amping the two, front speakers allows for plenty of power overhead while critical listening to stereo sources. Movies encoded with Dolby really come alive. As an upgrade to my Marantz SR-7012, I'm extremely happy I chose this AV Receiver. It's versatile and powerful, but most importantly, it sounds great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from What's with the Remote ? Just opened the box, and the first thing I noticed was the weak remote? I love Denon and therefore bought the top dog receiver, but at a $2K price difference I expected the remote to be on par with the previous top dog receiver.

Is Custom Speaker layout for 6x Ceiling Spkrs supported off a single Source if Atmos is being decoded externally & sent to A1H by XLR+RCA Inputs (where that Source is set to Analog Input Assignment)? Would 2, 4 or 6 discrete Channels play, bypassing DAC?

Asked by: DBol
Hello, Unfortunately, a multi-channel analog input (RCA or XLR) is not a supported feature of the AVR-A1H. There is no option to have multiple analog inputs be assigned as a collective single input.

Does this AVR have HD data link. I have a Denon dvd player with this feature. If it doesn’t why not?

Asked by: Rbraun
Hello, When HDMI was introduced, it allowed the industry to do away with all other types of digital data transfer, including the HD Data Link. HDMI was able to do this because it is not only able to feed high resolution audio and video signals, but in addition it caters for a secure feed with HDCP requirements being being met.

I have purchased the A1H. One thing that I was on the edge of was the remote, still I purchased. How do I program an RC-1194 remote to control this reciever? I am still in shock that a learning remote with LCD display doesn't come with this price tag.

Asked by: DenonOwnerSince1996
Hello, Congratulations on your purchase of our flagship AV Receiver. The AVR-A1H is a model of which we are very proud. The reason we chose not to offer a learning remote control with the AVR-A1H is because many users either already have their prefered universal remote control unit, or they will purchase a very specific universal remote control for their exact needs. We are aware there is not one universal remote control which is just right for everyone, so we decided against trying to offer such a thing. Here is a link to the web manual for the RC-1194. All features are covered, including programming: https://manuals.denon.com/avrx7200w/eu/en/WBSPSYyowkhwei.php Also, here is a link to the manual for the AVR-X7200W. Pages 289 through 306 have the details pertaining to the RC-1194 functionality: https://manuals.denon.com/AVRX7200WA/NA/EN/download.php?filename=/AVRX7200WA/NA/EN/pdf/AVRX7200WA_NA_EN.pdf

Does it support a 9.4.8 configuration? I see there are enough ports for it

Asked by: Pikimorso17
Hello, The processor stage supports a 9.4.8 set-up, but as the AVR-A1H has amplification for a maximum of 15 channels, an optional external amplifier would need to be added for the additional two channels to achieve a 9.4.8 configuration.

Is it possible to use HEOS to send surround back and height channels to another Denon amplifier and sync the two amps up for use during movie playback? If not, are there other options to send these channels over Wifi or Ethernet to seperate amps?

Asked by: agsommerfeld
Hello, With the AVR-A1H, (and alll our other AV receivers), any speaker operating as a speaker in the Main Zone (surround sound set-up) would have to be hard-wired to the AV receiver's speaker terminals. Our Home speakers can receiver a 2 channel signal, but they do not currently wirelessly decode a discrete surround sound signal.
